Sohee Ryuk is a historian of twentieth-century Eurasia and the Soviet Union. She recently completed a PhD in history from Columbia University. Her dissertation, “Unraveling the Soviet Carpet: Handicraft Carpets as Commodity, Craft, and Heritage, 1890-1982,” narrates an alternate political and economic geography of the Soviet Caucasus from the vantage point of the carpet handicraft.
