Jochen Hellbeck
Jochen Hellbeck is Distinguished Professor of History at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, whose work seeks to understand the place of Russia and the Soviet Union in the history of twentieth-century Europe and the modern world. He is the author of Revolution on My Mind: Writing a Diary under Stalin (Harvard University Press, 2006), Stalingrad: The City that Defeated the Third Reich (PublicAffairs, 2015), and the forthcoming monograph "World Enemy No. 1": Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and the Jews (Penguin Press, 2025), which presents the standoff between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union as the defining axis of the Second World War. He is also completing a documentary volume about Soviet suffering as a forgotten history of the Second World War.
